Botulinum toxin

What is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum toxin type A used in small doses temporarily smoothes wrinkles and fine lines and improves facial features. These injections take effect by weakening or paralysing particular muscles or by blocking certain nerves.

Although there are those who associate botulinum toxin injectables with big lips and the incapacity to frown or raise one’s eyebrows, if performed correctly by a qualified practitioner, these treatments can have a subtle and extremely positive effect on the overall look of the face.

Which areas that can be treated:

In addition to treating wrinkles or adding plumpness to your pout, botulinum toxin can be used for:

  • Cervical dystonia, which is a neurological disorder that causes dire neck and shoulder muscle contractions

  • Blepharospasm – uncontrollable blinking

  • Strabismus – misaligned eyes

  • Chronic migraines

  • Overactive bladder

  • Bruxism – excessive teeth grinding and jaw clenching that in severe cases causes pain, generalised headaches and dental problems.

How long does it last?:

The effects of botulinum toxin can last anywhere between 3-6 months, depending on the area being treated.
